Feinberg & Kamholtz

Matthew Feinberg is a trial and appellate lawyer whose practice focuses on criminal law, domestic relations and civil litigation. He graduated from Tufts University in 1964 and Boston University School of Law in 1967. A former public defender for the Legal Aid Society in New York City, Mr. Feinberg was the Legal Director of the Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts and a member of its Board for many years. He is a former Co-Chairman of the Boston Bar Association Criminal Law Section and is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is committed to providing quality representation to the indigent accused, accepting appointments in federal court and in state court on indictments charging murder. He has written and lectured widely on matters of criminal procedure and the rights of the accused.

Mr. Feinberg is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and a member of the Board of Managers of the Massachusetts chapter. He was a member of the Massachusetts Special Commission on Violence Against Children, Subcommittee on Substantiation and Fair Hearings. He chaired a Subcommittee of the United Way's Review Committee on Community Organizations and Special Services for several years. He is currently a Board member and Vice Chairman of the Committee for Public Counsel Services, the state agency which provides counsel to the indigent in all state criminal and applicable family law proceedings. Additionally, he served as a hearing officer for the Board of Bar Overseers, the state agency which functions under the auspices of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and which is responsible for enforcing the ethical rules of legal practice. In over thirty years of practice, Mr. Feinberg has tried dozens of jury trials and has handled more than twenty-five criminal and civil appeals, both state and federal. He has appeared in all the courts of the Commonwealth and has appeared three times before the United States Supreme Court.
